One of the largest problems in America today is that the vast majority of Americans do not truly understand what kind of government America has. They do not understand the form of government we live under and they do not understand the reasons for it. They think they do… but they do not. The reason for this is two-sided. One is the poverty of our Public Education system as it has failed to thoroughly teach ANY of us what we need to understand. And the other is that our history and the evolution of government since America’s founding has brought usto the place where the government we face is far afield of the government the Founding Fathers intended. So to return America to Liberty and Justice means returning America to its roots. And that means restoring a Republic of Sovereign States. First, lets understand what a Republic is. Borrowed from Wikipedia:
‘A republic (Latin: res publica) is a form of government in which the country is considered a "public matter", not the private concern or property of the rulers. The primary positions of power within a republic are not inherited. It is a form of government under which the head of state is not a monarch.’
‘In the example of the United States, the original 13 British colonies became independent states after the American Revolution, each having a republican form of government. These independent states initially formed a loose confederation called the United States and then later formed the current United States by ratifying the current U.S. Constitution, creating a union of sovereign states with the union or federal government also being a republic. Any state joining the union later was also required to be a republic.’
Too many Americans believe we live in a Democracy. They do not understand that democracies are very different than the form of government, a Republic, that we live in per our Constitution.
‘The Founding Fathers did not want democracy to rule. "Hence it is that democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and in general, have been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths … A republic, by which I mean a government in which a scheme of representation takes place, opens a different prospect and promises the cure for which we are seeking." — James Madison, Federalist Papers No. 10.
Marvin Simkin said: "Democracy is not freedom. Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to eat for lunch. Freedom comes from the recognition of certain rights which may not be taken, not even by a 99 percent vote."True democracy is the tyranny of the majority. True democracy is mob rule. Thankfully, we do not live in a democracy. We live in a republic. Article IV Section 4, of the Constitution: "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of government … "
‘And living in this republic means that every voice matters, majorities do not rule and those with the loudest voices do not automatically win. The will of the people means all of the people.Eubanks pointed out that the Founding Fathers worried about the tyranny of the majority and safeguarded against it, and that the Constitution works well by not allowing it to happen.’ – Carol Dexter, The Union
Living in a Republic of Sovereign States means the people of each State can determine how they will be governed under the Constitution. Being part of the Republic the States, nor its citizens, can deviate from the Constitutional rule. The Bill of Rights and the Rule of Law are honored by every State as a member of the Republic. But the citizens of the States determine how their State will handle their affairs and business in an independent way. So, for example, if Californians want to let their State Government handle social matters they can, while Texas may want their State Government to stay out of their business as much as possible. That’s the beauty of the Republic. One thing to notice however, in the restored Republic of Sovereign States the Federal Government is not in the position to collect taxes and redistribute them to the States as it is now. Each State will rise or fall on its own merits by the decisions of its own people. Freedom means responsibility… and that applies to States as well as individuals. But the Patriot Union vision is not about deciding for all of America… it’s about permitting the citizens of each State to decide for themselves.
By restoring Government By The People we empower Americans to determine their own destinies and we restore the Sovereignty of the States. Restoring State Sovereignty means, in many ways, removing power and authority from the Federal Government and returning it to the States. The more than 250 Federal Agencies that are now dictating to all of the States will certainly be reduced in their size and authority. (This also means greatly reducing the size of the Federal Government and the cost of it! And another point is that as we reduce the Federal Government’s size and power we also remove the drivers for commercial interests and special interests to lobby it and override the will of the People’s interests.)
As Patriot Union members begin to engage in activism through our Social Network they will begin to address issues in their home cities and States. As this happens our members will become more informed and educated and engaged. It is very important to see how this shifts the reality of being American and moves us toward the Founding Father’s vision. As American Patriots begin to guide the direction of the country the rest of our population will become informed and educated as well. The prominence of the Patriot Union in the politics and societal business of each State, and in the country, will manifest a clear picture of what being an American means. This comprehensive approach will result in a political and cultural revolution. And that is what must happen to see massive reform of our government and society. When the Light shines the Darkness disappears.
